Process modeling has become an important tool to document business operations and automate workflow execution. It is usually characterized as a collaborative activity during which domain experts and systems analysts work together to create a process model. Typically, this involves two principal activities: the concretization of an informal model by the domain expert and the abstraction of a formal model by the system analyst. Communication between these two roles, however, is often hampered by the fact that domain experts and system analysts may have different vocabularies, potentially leading to process models of low quality. In addition, maintenance of process models is often complicated since the knowledge about design decisions made in the past has been lost. To address these challenges we introduce a technique called Literate Process Modeling.
